📖 FULL BIBLE STUDY: WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES ABOUT DEMONS: 1. What Are Demons? Demons are fallen angels who joined Satan in his rebellion against God. Biblical Evidence: Revelation 12:3–4 – A third of the angels followed Satan. Matthew 25:41 – The “devil and his angels.” 2 Peter 2:4 – Some fallen angels are already bound in chains. Ephesians 6:12 – They operate in “principalities… powers… rulers of the darkness… spiritual wickedness.” Summary- Demons = spiritual beings who: Were created good Rebelled against God Now serve Satan Oppose God’s people and God’s purposes 2. Nature & Characteristics of Demons: They Are Spirit Beings- Matthew 8:16 – Cast out “spirits.” Luke 24:39 – “A spirit does not have flesh and bones.” They Have Intelligence Mark 1:24 – “We know who You are, the Holy One of God!” They Have Emotions James 2:19 – “Demons believe—and tremble.” They Have a Will Matthew 12:43–45 – They choose where to “rest.” They Are Powerful (But Limited) Acts 19:15–16 – One demon-possessed man overpowered seven men. BUT demons are not omnipotent, omniscient, or omnipresent. 3. The Organization of Demonic Kingdoms Paul describes a structured hierarchy: Principalities Powers Rulers of darkness Spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12) Daniel also reveals territorial spirits: “Prince of Persia” (Daniel 10:13) “Prince of Greece” (Daniel 10:20) Demons are organized, assigned, and strategic. 4. What Demons Do: A. They Deceive- 1 Timothy 4:1 – “Seducing spirits and doctrines of demons.” 2 Corinthians 11:14 – They disguise themselves as angels of light. B. They Tempt 1 Thessalonians 3:5 – The “tempter.” C. They Oppress Acts 10:38 – “Oppressed by the devil.” Common signs of oppression: Fear Torment Persistent spiritual heaviness Attacks on identity or calling D. They Possess (Control) In the NT, “demonized” = under demonic control to varying degrees. Examples: The Gadarene man (Mark 5:1–13) Mute and blind man (Matthew 12:22) Boy with seizures (Mark 9:17–27) E.They Promote False Religion Demons are behind: Idolatry (1 Corinthians 10:20) Witchcraft (Galatians 5:20) False prophecy (1 John 4:1–3) Occult manifestations (Revelation 16:14) F. They Inflict Physical Ailments (Not all sickness, but sometimes) Dumb spirit (Mark 9:17) Spirit of infirmity (Luke 13:11) G. They Influence Governments and Nations Territorial spirits (Daniel 10) Satan showing Jesus “all kingdoms of the world” (Luke 4:5–6) What Demons Want: 1. To Destroy John 10:10 – “Steal, kill, destroy.” 2. To Deceive Revelation 12:9 – “Deceives the whole world.” 3. To Inhabit a Person Matthew 12:43–45 – They seek “rest” in a body. 4. To Oppose God’s Purposes Acts 13:8–10 – Elymas “seeking to turn the governor from the faith.” 6. Can a Christian Be Demon-Possessed? *Possessed? No. Oppressed? Yes.* Christians are: Sealed by the Spirit (Ephesians 1:13) Possessed by Christ (1 Corinthians 6:20) A temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 3:16) But Christians can: Be tempted (1 Corinthians 10:13) Be oppressed (Acts 10:38) Give the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4:27) Be harassed by demons (2 Corinthians 12:7) 7. How Jesus Treated Demons Jesus: ✔ Spoke to them ✔ Rebuked them ✔ Forced them to obey ✔ Cast them out with a word ✔ Gave His authority to believers Key passages: Matthew 8:16 Mark 1:34 Luke 9:1 Luke 10:17–20 Demons fear: Jesus’ name (Mark 16:17) Jesus’ authority (Luke 10:19) Jesus’ presence (Mark 1:24) 8. How Believers Defeat Demons: A. Through Submission to God James 4:7 – “Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee.” B. Through the Word of God Jesus defeated Satan in the wilderness using Scripture (Matthew 4:1–11). C. Through the Name of Jesus Mark 16:17 – “In My name they shall cast out demons.” D. Through the Armor of God Belt of truth Breastplate of righteousness Shield of faith Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:10–18) E. Through the Holy Spirit 1 John 4:4 – “Greater is He who is in you…” F. Through Prayer & Fasting Some demons only leave by prayer and fasting. (Mark 9:29) 9. The Final Destiny of Demons Demons know their future: “Have You come to torment us before the time?” (Matthew 8:29) Their final sentence: Revelation 20:10 – Lake of fire, eternal torment. They lose. Forever. 10. Summary (Quick Reference) ✔ Demons = fallen angels ✔ They are intelligent, organized, and evil ✔ They deceive, tempt, oppress, possess, and destroy ✔ Jesus has full authority over them ✔ Believers share in that authority ✔ Their final judgment is guaranteed - More Joy Ministries
