ABRAHAM LIVED AT THE SAME TIME AS NOAH’S SON A man who walked off Noah’s ark was still alive when Abraham was an old man. Genesis 11 says Shem fathered Arphaxad two years after the Flood, then lived another 500 years. That puts his death 502 years after the Flood. Using the ages in Genesis and the timing of Abraham’s departure after Terah’s death in Acts 7, Abraham was born about 352 years after the Flood. Shem lived until Abraham was about 150. Isaac was already about 50. Think about that. Abraham and Isaac lived during the lifetime of someone who had seen the world before the Flood. We tend to picture these events separated by enormous stretches of time. Read the genealogies closely and you find generations overlapping far more than you might expect. The Flood was still within living memory during Abraham’s lifetime. Noah’s own son was still on the earth. Scripture never says Abraham met Shem, but their lives overlapped by roughly 150 years. Open Genesis 11 and follow the ages. That puts a whole different picture in your mind when you read Genesis. #MoreJoyMinistries
