SUKKOT WAS NEVER JUST ABOUT LIVING IN A TENT Sukkot is the Feast of Tabernacles. God commanded Israel to live in temporary booths for seven days so they would never forget the wilderness. Their fathers had no permanent home, no crops and no ability to sustain themselves. God kept them alive anyway. “Ye shall dwell in booths seven days” Leviticus 23:42 KJV Centuries later, John used the language of Sukkot to describe Jesus Christ. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” John 1:14 KJV The word translated “dwelt” carries the idea of pitching a tent or tabernacling among men. The God who dwelt with Israel in the wilderness entered His own creation in human flesh. Jesus later stood at the Feast of Tabernacles and cried before the crowd “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.” John 7:37 KJV That was a deliberate claim. In the middle of a feast built around remembering God’s provision, Jesus declared that He was the One they needed. Sukkot also reaches beyond the wilderness and the first coming of Christ. Zechariah says that after the Lord returns, the surviving nations will go up to Jerusalem to worship the King and keep the Feast of Tabernacles. “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth” Zechariah 14:9 KJV Sukkot remembers how God dwelt with Israel. John shows us God dwelling among men in Jesus Christ. Zechariah points to the day when Christ will rule the earth from Jerusalem. The feast is not an empty Jewish tradition. It tells the story of where God has been taking mankind from the beginning. God with us. #MoreJoyMinistries
