PENTECOST AND THE RAPTURE: A lot of Christians know Pentecost from Acts 2, but most do not realize how deep that day runs through Scripture. Pentecost was not some random day on the calendar. It was one of God’s appointed times. One of the moedim. מוֹעֲדִים — moedim Appointed times. Fixed seasons. Divine appointments. Leviticus 23 lays out the feasts of the LORD, and Pentecost sits right in the middle of that prophetic calendar. Passover points to the death of Christ. Unleavened Bread points to His sinless body. Firstfruits points to His resurrection. Then comes Pentecost. And what happened on Pentecost in Acts 2? The Holy Ghost came. The Church was born. Jews from many nations heard the mighty works of God in their own languages. God was doing something massive, and He did it on the exact appointed day. That should make Bible believers pay attention. The same God who fulfilled the spring feasts with precision has not lost control of the calendar. Now, I am not date-setting. Nobody should be playing games with dates and acting like they cracked a code. But we should also stop acting like God’s calendar does not matter. It does. Pentecost is connected with harvest. It is connected with the giving of the Law at Sinai in Jewish tradition, and the coming of the Spirit in Acts 2. It is tied to God forming a people for Himself. That makes the connection to the rapture worth studying carefully. Paul said: “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 That phrase “caught up” is the Latin idea behind the word rapture. In Greek it is: ἁρπάζω - harpazō To seize. To snatch away. To take by force. The rapture is not the Second Coming to earth. It is the catching away of the Church to meet the Lord in the air. And when you study God’s appointed times, Pentecost becomes one of those places where the patterns start getting loud. The Church began on Pentecost. The Spirit was given on Pentecost. The harvest theme is sitting right there. The trumpet language is sitting right there. The gathering language is sitting right there. Again, that does not mean we set a date. It means we study with our eyes open. God is not random with time. He marks seasons. He fulfills patterns. He keeps appointments. The world thinks history is chaos. The Bible shows us history is moving on God’s schedule. And one day, maybe sooner than people think, the Lord Himself will descend, the trumpet will sound, the dead in Christ will rise, and living believers will be caught up together with them. That is not escapism. That is blessed hope. “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” Titus 2:13 #MoreJoyMinistries
