FIRSTFRUITS: (THE FEAST THAT PREACHED THE RESURRECTION BEFORE JESUS EVER WALKED OUT OF THE TOMB) A lot of people know Passover. Some know Unleavened Bread. But Firstfruits often gets skipped, and that is a mistake, because Firstfruits is one of the clearest prophetic pictures of Jesus Christ in the entire feast system. God did not set these feast days in place randomly. They were appointments. They were rehearsals. They were divine patterns built into Israel’s calendar that pointed forward to the Messiah. Leviticus 23:9-11 says that when Israel came into the land and reaped the harvest, they were to bring the first sheaf of the harvest to the priest, and he was to wave the sheaf before the LORD “on the morrow after the sabbath.” Then in Leviticus 23:14, God says they were not to eat of the new harvest until that offering was brought before Him. That is the heart of Firstfruits. The first portion belonged to God. The first sheaf was not just a gift. It was a declaration. It was the opening of the harvest. It was the pledge that more was coming behind it. The firstfruits were the beginning, the representative portion, and the guarantee that the rest of the harvest would follow. That is exactly why this feast matters so much in the New Testament. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 15:20, “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.” Jesus did not merely rise from the dead near the time of Firstfruits. He fulfilled what Firstfruits meant. He is the first sheaf presented before God. He is the accepted One. He is the beginning of the resurrection harvest. And because He rose, all who belong to Him will rise too. Firstfruits means the grave does not get the final word. Jesus was not an isolated resurrection never to mean anything for anybody else. He rose as the firstfruits, which means His resurrection guarantees the coming resurrection of His people. The feast was always whispering the gospel before the cross and resurrection ever happened. Think about how powerful that is. Passover points to His death as the Lamb. Unleavened Bread points to His sinless body. Firstfruits points to His resurrection victory. The feast calendar was preaching Christ in advance. This is also why Firstfruits is tied to hope. Farmers do not bring firstfruits because harvest failed. They bring firstfruits because harvest has begun. Firstfruits is the signal that what was promised is now breaking into reality. So when Christ rose, God was declaring that death had been invaded, the harvest had begun, and the resurrection program was now in motion. Jesus’ resurrection was not just proof that He had power. It was proof that the rest of the harvest is coming. That means the believer’s future is not symbolic. It is not vague. It is not just “spiritual.” It is bodily. It is real. It is guaranteed. Now here is where people sometimes differ on the calendar. In 2026, many following the standard Jewish calendar mark the beginning of the Omer and Firstfruits on 16 Nisan, beginning at sundown on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Hebcal lists the Omer count beginning that evening, and several 2026 Messianic calendars place Firstfruits there as well. Other Christians and Messianic groups place Firstfruits on the day after the weekly Sabbath during Unleavened Bread, which in 2026 falls from sundown Saturday, April 4, to sundown Sunday, April 5, 2026. That is why many believers will connect Firstfruits this year directly with Resurrection Sunday on April 5, 2026. In 2026, Firstfruits is commonly observed either beginning at sundown on April 2, 2026, or from sundown April 4 to sundown April 5, 2026, depending on the calendar tradition being followed. But the meaning does not change. The message of Firstfruits is that Jesus rose first, accepted before the Father, and because He lives, those who are His will also be raised. The empty tomb was not the end of the story. It was the firstfruits of the coming harvest. That is why Firstfruits still matters. It reminds us that resurrection is not wishful thinking. It is covenant reality. Christ has risen. The harvest has begun. And more is coming. #MoreJoyMinistries
