SHAMGAR GOT ONE VERSE: There are men in the Bible whose lives fill chapters. Shamgar got one verse. “And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.” Judges 3:31 KJV Read that again and think about what God chose to remember. Judges 5 says the highways were empty in Shamgar’s day. People were afraid to travel the main roads. Israel was being pushed around, normal life was breaking down, and somebody had to do something about it. Shamgar did. We don’t know if he was a soldier. We don’t know what kind of training he had. Scripture gives us none of that. It gives us an ox goad. A farm tool. Somewhere along the line, Shamgar decided he’d had enough of watching his people live scared. Six hundred Philistines later, God wrote this about him. “He also delivered Israel.” I love that. God didn’t need three chapters to explain the man. He didn’t record what Shamgar owned, how important he was, who knew his name, or whether anybody applauded him. He recorded that when Israel needed somebody to stand up, Shamgar stood up. Most men spend too much time waiting for better circumstances before they become useful. Better money. Better tools. Better position. Better timing. Shamgar had an ox goad. Apparently that was enough. I don’t need God to write a book about my life. I’d be more than satisfied with one sentence that said I was useful when it counted. #MoreJoyMinistries
