GOD KEPT CHOOSING THE YOUNGER BROTHER: Under the law, the firstborn son received a double portion of the inheritance. “He shall acknowledge the son of the hated for the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath.” Deuteronomy 21:17 KJV That law protected the firstborn from a father manipulating the inheritance because he preferred another wife or another son. It governed what men were permitted to do. It never restricted what God could do. From the beginning, God kept passing over the man everyone expected Him to choose. Cain was born first, but the righteous line continued through Seth. Ishmael was Abraham’s firstborn, but the covenant went through Isaac. Esau came out first, but Jacob received the birthright and the blessing. Reuben was Jacob’s firstborn, but he lost his position through sin. The priesthood went to Levi, the kingship went to Judah, and the double portion went to Joseph through Ephraim and Manasseh. Even then, Jacob crossed his hands and placed the greater blessing on Ephraim, the younger son. Joseph was hated by his older brothers, thrown into a pit and sold as a slave. God raised him above every one of them and used him to keep the whole family alive. Aaron was older than Moses, but God chose Moses to lead Israel. David was the youngest son of Jesse. His father didn’t even bother calling him in when Samuel came looking for the future king. God rejected every older brother and sent for the shepherd boy. Solomon wasn’t David’s firstborn either, yet God placed him on the throne and entrusted him with the temple. God established the rights of the firstborn because men need laws that prevent favoritism and injustice. Then He repeatedly chose the younger to show that His kingdom isn’t built on human rank, birth order or entitlement. “The elder shall serve the younger.” Romans 9:12 KJV The pattern points straight at grace. The flesh says the oldest, strongest and most impressive man should inherit the promise. God chooses the man nobody expected, lifts him out of obscurity and makes it impossible for anyone else to take the credit. #MoreJoyMinistries
