BABYLON CHANGED THEIR NAMES: Most of us grew up hearing about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. But those weren’t the names their mothers gave them. Their names were Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. “Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah…” Daniel 1:6 KJV Then Babylon captured them, dragged them away from home, and put new names on them. “Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names…” Daniel 1:7 KJV That’s easy to read past, but there’s a lot sitting there. Hananiah means The LORD is gracious. Mishael means Who is like God? Azariah means The LORD has helped. Their Hebrew names carried truth. Every time someone called their name, it pointed back to the God of Israel. Then Babylon renamed them. Shadrach. Meshach. Abednego. Those names were tied to Babylon’s world, Babylon’s gods, and Babylon’s power. Especially Abednego, which means something like servant of Nebo/Nabu, one of Babylon’s false gods. A young man whose name meant The LORD has helped was now being called servant of a false god. That wasn’t just a name change. That was Babylon trying to bury who he was. Same thing the world still does. It tries to pull people away from God, then teach them to answer to something else. It puts labels on people. It rewrites identity. It pressures young people until wrong feels normal and obedience feels extreme. But when everything went down in Daniel 3, those three Hebrew boys knew exactly who they were. Everybody else bowed. They stood. The king threatened them with fire, and their answer still hits hard: “Our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace… But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods.” Daniel 3:17-18 KJV Real faith. They knew God could deliver them. They also knew God was still worthy if He didn’t. Babylon had their bodies in captivity, but it never got their worship. The king threw three men into the furnace, but then he saw four. “Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire… and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Daniel 3:25 KJV Man can change your title. The world can call you whatever it wants. The devil can try to bury your identity under pressure, fear, shame, and lies. But God still knows who you are. Hananiah still belonged to the gracious LORD. Mishael still knew there was none like God. Azariah was still helped by the LORD. And when the fire got hot, Jesus was already in there. Stay standing. #MoreJoyMinistries
