BLOOD MOONS: SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS OR SPECULATION? Scripture is clear that God placed the lights in the heavens with purpose. Genesis 1:14 says the sun, moon, and stars were given for signs, for appointed times, for days and years. The Hebrew word for appointed times is moedim, meaning divine appointments, Feast days. Joel 2:30–31 declares that before the great and terrible Day of the Lord, the sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood. Peter repeats this in Acts 2:19–20. Revelation 6:12 describes the sixth seal where the sun becomes black as sackcloth and the moon becomes like blood. So we must separate three things. Astronomy. History. Prophecy. A blood moon is a total lunar eclipse. The earth moves between the sun and moon and filters sunlight, giving the moon a deep red appearance. This is predictable. It follows orbital mechanics. It is not random. There have been tetrads, four consecutive total lunar eclipses, that fell on Passover and Sukkot. Notable ones occurred in 1493–1494 after the expulsion of Jews from Spain. In 1949–1950 after the rebirth of Israel. In 1967–1968 around the Six Day War. Those alignments are historically interesting. But here is where discipline matters. Passover and Sukkot occur during full moons. Lunar eclipses only happen during full moons. That means overlap is mathematically possible whenever orbital cycles align. It does not automatically equal prophetic fulfillment. Joel and Revelation describe something far more dramatic than routine eclipses. Revelation 6 includes a massive global earthquake, worldwide terror, and kings hiding in caves. That event has not happened. Jesus in Luke 21 said there would be signs in the sun, moon, and stars. He also warned against deception and date setting. The true Day of the Lord event will not require speculation. It will be unmistakable and accompanied by global upheaval. As for the coming eclipses, they are real astronomical events. Some will fall near Jewish feast days. That is measurable science. Whether they carry prophetic weight remains to be seen. Here is the balanced conclusion. God controls the heavens. The heavens declare His glory. Scripture defines prophecy. Hype does not equal fulfillment. Our task is not panic. It is preparation. Know the Word. Walk in holiness. Watch the world. Stay sober. When the true prophetic signs unfold exactly as written, there will be no confusion. Until then, stay anchored in Scripture and steady in faith. More Joy Ministries - Tony Campbell #MoreJoyMinistries
