THE FEAST OF WEEKS: The Feast of Weeks is one of the appointed times of the LORD in Leviticus 23. Most Christians know it by the Greek name: Pentecost. But Israel knew it as: שָׁבֻעוֹת — Shavuot It means weeks. God told Israel to count seven full weeks from the offering of Firstfruits. Leviticus 23:15-16 says: “Ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath… seven sabbaths shall be complete: Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days…” Seven weeks. Fifty days. That is why the Greek name is: Πεντηκοστή - Pentēkostē Meaning fiftieth. Pentecost means the fiftieth day. Now watch the order God gave. Passover. Unleavened Bread. Firstfruits. Then Pentecost. That is God laying out His plan. Passover points to Christ’s death. Unleavened Bread points to His sinless body. Firstfruits points to His resurrection. Then fifty days later, Pentecost points to the coming of the Holy Ghost and the beginning of the Gospel harvest. Acts 2:1 says: “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place…” Then Acts 2:4 says: “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost…” The Spirit came on Pentecost. God chose that day. This feast was already tied to harvest in Israel. Then in Acts 2, God used that same appointed day to begin gathering souls through the preaching of the Gospel. Peter stood up and preached Jesus Christ crucified, risen, and exalted. About three thousand souls were added that day. That detail is hard to miss when you remember Sinai. Jewish tradition connects Shavuot with the giving of the Law at Mount Sinai. In Exodus 32, after Israel sinned with the golden calf, about three thousand men fell under judgment. But in Acts 2, on Pentecost, about three thousand souls were saved. The Law exposed sin. The Spirit gave life. The Law was not evil. The Law is holy. It shows man his guilt before God. But the Law cannot save. Christ saves. The Spirit gives new birth. The Gospel brings life. That is why the Feast of Weeks is bigger than most people realize. Jesus died on Passover. He rose as Firstfruits. Then on Pentecost, the Holy Ghost came, and the harvest began. The Church did not start because men got clever. It started because Christ finished the work, the Spirit came with power, and the Gospel went out. That is Pentecost. God keeping His appointed time. #MoreJoyMinistries
