WHY WERE THERE 120 PEOPLE IN THE UPPER ROOM? This is one of those connections you can read past your entire life. When Solomon’s Temple was dedicated, 120 priests sounded trumpets together. “And the priests waited on their offices… having trumpets… an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets.” 2 Chronicles 5:11–12 KJV When they became “as one,” the glory of the LORD filled the house. Centuries later, about 120 believers were gathered together in Jerusalem. “And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples… the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty.” Acts 1:15 KJV Then came Pentecost. They were with one accord. A sound from heaven filled the house. Cloven tongues like fire appeared, and every believer was filled with the Holy Ghost. The first 120 were priests standing in a temple made with hands. The second 120 became part of a living temple built by God. “Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood…” 1 Peter 2:5 KJV The number is impossible to ignore, but the Bible never directly explains why there were 120 in the upper room. It does show the pattern. Under Solomon, God filled the house. At Pentecost, God filled His people. “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV The Church is not the building. The Church is the people God inhabits. #MoreJoyMinistries
