WHY DID JESUS COMPARE HIMSELF TO A SERPENT? People know John 3:16. Read what Jesus said two verses before it. “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up.” John 3:14 KJV Jesus was talking to Nicodemus about something that happened in Numbers 21. Israel had spoken against God and Moses. The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and many died. The people confessed their sin and asked Moses to pray for them. God told Moses to make a serpent of brass and put it on a pole. A person who had been bitten could look at it and live. The brass had no healing power. Their survival depended on trusting the remedy God provided. Jesus used that event to explain His own coming crucifixion. He would be lifted up, and salvation would come through believing in Him. “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:15 KJV Then comes “For God so loved the world.” John 3:16 belongs to a conversation about dying people and the salvation God provides. Go back to verse 14 and follow what Jesus was teaching. #MoreJoyMinistries
