Ezekiel was among the captives beside the river Chebar when the heavens opened. A whirlwind came out of the north, carrying a great cloud, fire, and a brightness Ezekiel described as the color of amber. Out of that fire came four living creatures. Ezekiel 1:1–5. Each creature had four faces and four wings. Every one had the face of a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle. They had human hands beneath their wings and feet resembling calves’ feet, shining like polished brass. Two wings extended upward and joined the wings of the others, while two covered their bodies. Ezekiel 1:6–11. Fire moved among them, and lightning came out of it. Their movements were as swift as flashes of lightning. Ezekiel 1:13–14. Ezekiel later identifies these creatures as cherubim. Chapter 10 also describes their bodies, backs, hands, wings, and wheels as covered with eyes. These are the same creatures he had seen beside the river Chebar. Ezekiel 10:12, 20–22. Beside the creatures were four wheels, gleaming like beryl. Each had the appearance of one wheel intersecting another. Their towering rims were covered with eyes, and they could move in four directions without turning. The wheels moved with the creatures. When the creatures stopped, the wheels stopped. When the creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose beside them, because the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. Ezekiel 1:15–21. Above their heads stretched a firmament resembling crystal. Ezekiel heard their wings roaring like rushing waters and the sound of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings, and a voice came from above that firmament. Ezekiel 1:22–25. Above the firmament was a throne resembling sapphire. Upon it was a figure with the appearance of a man, surrounded by fiery radiance. Brightness encircled Him like a rainbow in a rain cloud. “This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD.” Ezekiel 1:28 KJV. When Ezekiel saw it, he fell on his face and heard a voice speaking. Ezekiel 1:26–28. #MoreJoyMinistries
