THE TEMPLE TIMELINE The Temple keeps returning to the center of biblical history because Jerusalem remains at the center of prophecy. It began with the Tabernacle in the wilderness. God placed His dwelling in the middle of Israel’s camp. Solomon later built the First Temple in Jerusalem. The glory of the LORD filled the house. Babylon destroyed it in 586 BC. The Jews returned from captivity and completed the Second Temple in 516 BC. Herod later spent decades enlarging it into the massive complex standing during the ministry of Jesus. Jesus warned that it would be destroyed. “There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” Matthew 24:2 KJV Rome destroyed it in AD 70. The story still is not finished. Daniel describes sacrifice being stopped during the seventieth week. Jesus warned about the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place. Paul wrote that the man of sin will sit in the Temple of God and declare himself to be God. That requires another Temple. Ezekiel then spends nine chapters describing a Temple connected to the future Kingdom, when the Lord reigns from Jerusalem and living water flows outward. Two Temples were destroyed. Scripture still points forward. Jerusalem has not disappeared from God’s plan, and prophecy is not finished. #MoreJoyMinistries
