WHY IS JESUS CALLED THE WORD? “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1 KJV John calls Jesus “the Word.” The Greek word is Logos. λόγος Logos means more than a spoken word. It can refer to reason, thought, meaning, or the expression of an idea. It’s also related to the Greek word behind our English word “logic.” John is telling us that Jesus Christ is the eternal mind, wisdom, and expression of God. He wasn’t created in Bethlehem. John takes us all the way back before Genesis 1:1 and says Jesus was already there. He was with God, and He was God. “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3 KJV Genesis says God spoke the universe into existence. John reveals that everything was created through Jesus Christ, the eternal Word. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…” John 1:14 KJV The God who spoke light into darkness stepped into the world He created. He took on flesh, lived among men, went to the cross carrying our sins, and rose from the grave. Jesus is called the Word because God has made Himself known through Him. You don’t have to guess what God is like. Look at Jesus Christ. #MoreJoyMinistries
