THE ATLANTIC JUST DID SOMETHING IT HASN’T DONE IN 112 YEARS From 1915 through 2025, every Atlantic hurricane season produced at least one hurricane by September 21. Then came 2026. Not one hurricane. Six named tropical storms formed, but every one of them fell apart before reaching hurricane strength. September 10 is normally the statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. By now, an average season has already produced around four hurricanes and two major hurricanes. This year’s storm activity has been roughly 93 percent below average. Meteorologists point to an unusually powerful El Niño. Strong wind shear has been ripping developing storms apart, while dry, sinking air keeps them from organizing. The ocean is warm enough. The atmosphere simply hasn’t allowed these storms to grow. Hurricane season runs through November 30, so it isn’t over yet. Still, making it past September 21 without a single hurricane hasn’t happened since 1914. We can measure the wind, track the pressure, watch the ocean, and study every condition that produces a storm. Controlling it is another matter. “He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.” Psalm 107:29 KJV #MoreJoyMinistries
