IT’S CALLED JACOB’S TROUBLE FOR A REASON There’s a verse in Jeremiah that makes the purpose of the coming Tribulation pretty hard to misunderstand. “Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.” Jeremiah 30:7 KJV Notice what God called it. Jacob’s trouble. Jacob is Israel. Genesis 32:28 records God changing Jacob’s name to Israel. Jeremiah isn’t being vague about who is in view. This isn’t called America’s trouble. It isn’t called the Church’s trouble. It’s Jacob’s trouble. Read the entire context of Jeremiah 30. “For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.” Jeremiah 30:3 KJV Israel and Judah. The land God gave their fathers. Then only four verses later God calls what is coming “the time of Jacob’s trouble.” Daniel describes the same unparalleled period. “And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time.” Daniel 12:1 KJV Jesus uses the same language. “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.” Matthew 24:21 KJV Then look at Daniel’s seventy weeks. “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city.” Daniel 9:24 KJV Daniel was Jewish. His people were Israel. His holy city was Jerusalem. The seventieth week isn’t God suddenly forgetting Israel and turning His attention toward America. It belongs to the prophetic program Daniel was given concerning Israel and Jerusalem. Jeremiah even tells us where this ultimately goes. “They shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.” Jeremiah 30:9 KJV God isn’t finished with Israel. The same chapter that announces Jacob’s trouble also promises Jacob’s deliverance and restoration. That’s why calling the seven year Tribulation simply a worldwide disaster misses a huge part of what Scripture is showing us. The judgments certainly affect the world, but God specifically identifies this period with Jacob, Israel, Jerusalem, and the completion of Daniel’s seventy weeks. Words matter. God could have called it anything. He called it JACOB’S TROUBLE. #MoreJoyMinistries
