THE TRINITY: The doctrine of the Trinity is not a church invention. It is not a philosophical add-on. It is the unavoidable conclusion when you take the Hebrew and Greek text seriously and refuse to ignore any of it. The Trinity teaches that God is one in essence, eternally existing as three distinct Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not three gods. Not one Person wearing three masks. One Being. Three Persons. Co-equal. Co-eternal. Perfectly unified. Let’s start where Scripture starts. THE ONENESS OF GOD IN HEBREW: Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.” The Hebrew word for one here is echad (אֶחָד). Echad does not always mean absolute singularity. It frequently describes a composite unity. Genesis 2:24 says the two shall become one flesh. The word for one is echad. Two persons. One unity. Numbers 13:23 describes one cluster of grapes. The word is echad. Multiple grapes. One cluster. The Shema declares God is one. The Hebrew allows for complex unity, not mathematical singularity. Now look at Genesis 1:1. “In the beginning God created…” The word for God is Elohim (אֱלֹהִים). Grammatically plural. The verb bara (בָּרָא) is singular. Plural noun. Singular action. Plurality in subject. Unity in execution. Genesis 1:26 “Let Us make man in Our image.” The Hebrew pronouns are plural. Us. Our. Isaiah 48:16 “And now the Lord GOD, and His Spirit, hath sent Me.” Three figures in one verse. The Lord GOD. His Spirit. The One sent. Psalm 110:1 “The LORD said unto my Lord…” The first LORD is YHWH (יהוה). The second Lord is Adonai (אֲדֹנָי). Jesus quotes this in Matthew 22 to show the Messiah is more than David’s son. The Old Testament does not explain the Trinity fully. But it absolutely prepares for it. THE SON IN GREEK: John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Greek reads: En arche ēn ho Logos, kai ho Logos ēn pros ton Theon, kai Theos ēn ho Logos. Notice carefully. Pros ton Theon means “toward God” or “face to face with God.” It implies relationship and distinction. Theos ēn ho Logos places Theos first in the sentence for emphasis. The Word was God in nature and essence. Distinction and identity in the same verse. John 8:58 “Before Abraham was, I AM.” Greek: Ego eimi (ἐγώ εἰμι). This mirrors the Septuagint translation of Exodus 3:14 where God says Ego eimi ho ōn. Jesus deliberately invokes the divine name. Colossians 2:9 “In Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” The word for Godhead is Theotēs (Θεότης). It means the very essence of deity, not divine qualities, but full divine nature. Hebrews 1:8 “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God…” The Father addresses the Son as Theos. This is not symbolic. The Son is explicitly called God. THE HOLY SPIRIT IN GREEK: Acts 5:3–4 Peter says Ananias lied to the Holy Spirit, then says he lied to God. The Holy Spirit is called to Pneuma to Hagion (τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον). Spirit is neuter grammatically, yet in John 16:13 Jesus uses the masculine pronoun ekeinos when referring to the Spirit. Why? Because the Spirit is personal, not impersonal. The Spirit speaks in Acts 13:2. The Spirit can be grieved in Ephesians 4:30. The Spirit searches the deep things of God in 1 Corinthians 2:10. Not a force. A Person. DISTINCTION WITHOUT DIVISION Matthew 3:16–17 The Son is baptized. The Spirit descends. The Father speaks. Matthew 28:19 “Baptizing them in the name…” The word name is onoma (ὄνομα), singular. Not names. One name. Three Persons. 2 Corinthians 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost…” Three distinct Persons. One divine blessing. THE LOGICAL CONCLUSION: The Bible teaches: God is one. The Father is God. The Son is God. The Spirit is God. The Father is not the Son. The Son is not the Spirit. The Spirit is not the Father. There is only one doctrine that holds all of that without contradiction. The Trinity. As Dr. Chuck Missler often emphasized in his teachings on the Godhead, the doctrine is not imposed on Scripture. It emerges from the text when you refuse to ignore any of it. The Hebrew grammar allows complex unity. The Greek grammar affirms full deity and personal distinction. WHY THIS MATTERS: If Jesus is not fully God, the atonement collapses. If the Spirit is not fully God, regeneration collapses. If God is not eternally relational, then “God is love” becomes a created attribute rather than eternal reality. The Trinity is not a mathematical puzzle. It is the self-revelation of God across both Testaments in Hebrew and Greek. One essence. Three Persons. Eternal glory. That is the biblical standard. - More Joy Ministries #MoreJoyMinistries
