THE BIBLE DOESN’T FLATTER STUPIDITY Job 11:12 is savage. “For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt.” Job 11:12 KJV The Hebrew word translated “vain” is נָבַב, nabab. It means hollow or empty. Zophar is talking about an empty headed man who still thinks he knows something. Then he brings up a wild donkey. That wasn’t random. A wild donkey was untamed, stubborn, and resistant to restraint. Good luck telling one where to go. That’s the picture. A man can be completely empty of understanding and still be absolutely convinced he’s wise. We’ve somehow managed to make Job 11:12 even easier to understand today. Put Google in everybody’s pocket and suddenly everybody’s an expert. Access to information isn’t wisdom. Knowing a bunch of facts doesn’t mean you understand any of them, and having an opinion certainly doesn’t make you right. The Bible tells us where wisdom actually starts. “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.” Psalm 111:10 KJV Remove God from the equation and education alone won’t fix foolishness. You can make a fool extremely educated and still have a fool. #MoreJoyMinistries
