THE FOURTH VIAL: “And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.” Revelation 16:8 KJV This one is brutal. The fourth angel pours his vial on the sun, and suddenly the thing that has warmed the earth since Genesis is turned into a weapon. Men are scorched with “great heat.” Revelation doesn’t tell us exactly what changes in the sun or atmosphere. It doesn’t need to. The point is clear. God gives the sun power to scorch the earth, and mankind knows exactly where the judgment is coming from. “And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.” Revelation 16:9 KJV They know it’s God. They know He has power over the plague. They’re literally being burned under His judgment. They still won’t repent. That tells you something about the human heart that people don’t like to admit. More proof doesn’t always produce faith. More judgment doesn’t always produce repentance. A man can harden himself against God so long that when God becomes impossible to deny, he doesn’t fall on his knees. He curses Him. There’s also an interesting contrast here. During the fourth trumpet, part of the sun is struck and the earth loses light. During the fourth vial, the sun is intensified and men are scorched.
