TOP 20 RELIGIONS IN THE WORLD:
(by global followers)
People often say, “There are so many religions—how could anyone know which one is true?”
That question is fair. So let’s start with facts.
Scholars estimate there are thousands of religions worldwide, but when grouped by size, here are the top 20 belief systems by number of adherents (estimates vary by source):
Christianity — ~2.4 billion
Islam — ~2.0 billion
Hinduism — ~1.2 billion
Unaffiliated (atheist / agnostic / none) — ~1.9 billion
Buddhism — ~500 million
Chinese Folk Religions — ~450 million
Ethnic Religions — ~300 million
Shinto — ~100 million
Sikhism — ~25 million
Judaism — ~14 million
Spiritism — tens of millions
Taoism — ~12 million
Jainism — ~12 million
Baháʼí Faith — ~8 million
Confucianism — several million
New Religious Movements — ~60+ million (combined)
Caodaism — ~5 million
Zoroastrianism — <100,000
Rastafari — ~1 million
Folk Religions — tens of millions
So yes—many religions exist.
But Scripture says the problem is not lack of options.
The problem is rejection of truth.
“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie…” (Romans 1:25)
Truth is not decided by popularity, tradition, or sincerity.
Jesus did not claim to show a way—He claimed to be the way.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
— John 14:6
Many religions. One Savior.
