WORLD RELIGIONS EXAMINED: (Judaism) “Test all things; hold fast what is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Judaism is unique among the world’s religions because it is the foundation from which Christianity emerged. Christians share the Hebrew Scriptures, the covenants, the prophets, and the promises first given to Israel. Yet despite this shared foundation, Judaism and Christianity part ways at one crucial point: the identity of the Messiah. This study is not a dismissal of the Jewish Scriptures—quite the opposite. It is because Christians take them seriously that we affirm Jesus as their fulfillment. What Judaism Teaches: Judaism is strictly monotheistic, affirming one eternal, personal Creator God. It centers on the Torah, along with the Prophets and the Writings (the Hebrew Bible, or Tanakh). Judaism emphasizes: Obedience to God’s Law Covenant identity with Israel Ethical living and faithfulness Most modern Jewish theology does not teach a clear doctrine of original sin requiring atonement through a substitute. Instead, repentance, good deeds, prayer, and obedience are emphasized. What Judaism Says About Jesus Judaism does not accept Jesus as: The Messiah The Son of God The fulfillment of messianic prophecy Jesus is typically viewed as: A false messiah A teacher who led Israel astray Or simply not relevant to Jewish faith The New Testament is rejected as authoritative Scripture. Where Judaism Conflicts with Scripture The Old Testament itself points forward to a coming Messiah who would suffer, atone for sin, and reign. Isaiah describes a Servant who would be pierced for transgressions and bear the sins of many (Isaiah 53). Daniel foretells a Messiah who would be “cut off” before Jerusalem’s destruction (Daniel 9:26). Micah names Bethlehem as the Messiah’s birthplace (Micah 5:2). Psalm 22 describes crucifixion centuries before it existed. Jesus fulfills these prophecies in detail. “These are the Scriptures that testify about Me.” — John 5:39 To reject Jesus is not to honor Moses—it is to miss what Moses wrote about Him. Law vs. Fulfillment: Judaism continues to look forward to a future Messiah and often views the Law as the central means of covenant faithfulness. Christianity declares that the Messiah has already come—and that He fulfilled the Law perfectly. “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” — Romans 10:4 Righteousness is not achieved by Torah observance, but by faith in the One to whom the Torah pointed. Why This Matters: Judaism preserves the promises—but Christianity proclaims their fulfillment. To reject Jesus is to remain in expectation. To receive Jesus is to enter into completion. “Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father; whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.” — 1 John 2:23 The Messiah Israel longed for has come. His name is Jesus. - More Joy Ministries #MoreJoyMinistries
