WHO DID JESUS CLAIM TO BE?
Jesus didn’t merely claim to be a prophet or teacher. He claimed the very identity of the LORD (YHWH) revealed in the Old Testament.
🔹 John 8:58
“Before Abraham was, I AM.”
Jesus doesn’t say “I was” — He uses the divine name revealed in Exodus 3:14. The Jews understood this clearly… and tried to stone Him.
🔹 Isaiah 44:6
“Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, AND his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.”
Now compare:
🔹 John 10:30, 33
“I and my Father are one… thou, being a man, makest thyself God.”
Jesus never corrected them — because they understood Him rightly.
🔹 Isaiah 59:20
“The Redeemer shall come to Zion…”
🔹 Malachi 3:1
“The Lord… shall suddenly come to his temple.”
Who came to the Temple? Jesus.
The Redeemer is the LORD Himself.
🔹 Isaiah 48:12–13, 16
The First and Last, the Creator of heaven and earth, says:
“…and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.”
Distinction — yet one divine identity.
🔹 Revelation 22:13, 16
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end… I Jesus.”
The titles YHWH claims alone in Isaiah are openly claimed by Jesus in Revelation.
👑 In Revelation 2–3, Jesus walks among the Seven Churches — judging, correcting, rewarding — roles that belong to God alone.
📌 Conclusion:
The Bible doesn’t present Jesus as a lesser god, created being, or exalted angel.
It presents Him as the LORD made flesh — the I AM who entered His own creation to redeem it.
“That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father.” (John 5:23)
✝️ Jesus Christ is the First and the Last.
