The Gospel – “Good News” In Greek, “gospel” (euangelion) means “good news” or “message that brings joy.” You can’t fully appreciate the good news until you grasp the bad news. **The Bad News** All have sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Rom 3:23). The wages of sin is death—eternal separation from God (Rom 6:23). No one is righteous; even our best works are filthy rags before a holy God (Rom 3:10; Isa 64:6). Without a Savior, every one of us is headed for hell. **The Good News** God loves us and refuses to leave us in that condition. He sent His Son: - Jesus lived the perfect life we could never live. - He died on the cross as our substitute, becoming sin for us (2 Cor 5:21) and fulfilling the Law’s demands (Rom 8:3-4). - He rose again on the third day, defeating death and proving everything He claimed (Rom 4:25; 1 Cor 15:3-6). - Everyone who repents and trusts in Him alone is forgiven, declared righteous, adopted into God’s family, and promised eternal life (John 3:16-18; Rom 5:1; Rom 8:1; 1 Pet 1:3-4). Jesus finished the work (John 19:30). Salvation is a free gift, not earned (Eph 2:8-9). That is the gospel. Paul sums it up in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4: “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Rom 1:16). ### Hidden Gospel in Genesis 5 (The famous genealogy most people skip) When the Hebrew names from Adam to Noah are translated, they form a sentence: | Hebrew | English meaning | |----------|------------------------| | Adam | Man | | Seth | Appointed | | Enosh | Mortal | | Kenan | Sorrow | | Mahalalel| The Blessed God | | Jared | Shall come down | | Enoch | Teaching | | Methuselah| His death shall bring | | Lamech | (The) Despairing | | Noah | Comfort / Rest | → “Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the Blessed God shall come down teaching (that) His death shall bring (the) despairing comfort/rest.” The gospel was hidden in the very first genealogy in the Bible—thousands of years before Jesus was born. That’s the Good News.
