WHY WILL GOD RELEASE SATAN AT THE END OF THE MILLENNIAL REIGN? A lot of people hit Revelation 20 and ask the same question. If Jesus Christ is reigning on the earth for a thousand years, Satan is bound, righteousness is enforced, and the world is finally under perfect government, why would God release Satan at the end? Because God is exposing the human heart one final time. Revelation 20:7–10 says that when the thousand years are finished, Satan will be loosed from his prison and will go out “to deceive the nations.” Those nations gather against “the camp of the saints” and “the beloved city,” and fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours them. Then the devil is cast into the lake of fire forever. The Millennial Kingdom will be the most righteous government this world has ever seen. Jesus Himself will rule. Justice will not be bought. Corruption will not be tolerated. Open rebellion will not be allowed to flourish. The earth will know peace and order in a way it never has under fallen human rulers. And still, a perfect environment will not fix fallen man. That’s the point. The people who enter the kingdom in mortal bodies will have children. Those children will grow up under the visible reign of Christ. They will live in a world filled with truth, order, blessing, and righteous government. But they will still be born with Adam’s nature. They will still need personal faith. They will still need a new heart. A perfect King over them does not automatically mean Christ rules in them. That is why Satan is released. His release exposes what was already in the heart. It proves that man’s deepest problem is not his environment, his government, his education, his opportunities, or his social conditions. Man’s deepest problem is sin. That destroys one of the biggest lies people still believe: if society were just cleaned up enough, people would naturally become good. Revelation 20 crushes that fantasy. Give fallen humanity peace, prosperity, truth, justice, and the personal reign of Jesus Christ on earth, and when Satan is released, many will still follow him into rebellion. Why? Because outward perfection cannot cure inward corruption. That is why Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” That is why Jesus told Nicodemus, “Ye must be born again.” Better conditions are not enough. Better laws are not enough. Better leadership is not enough. Man does not need a religious tune-up. He needs regeneration. The release of Satan also proves something about Satan himself. He never changes. Lock him up for a thousand years, and the moment he is released, he goes right back to what he has always done. He deceives. He gathers rebels. He moves against God. He leads people into destruction. Time does not soften him. Judgment does not reform him. He is the adversary to the end. And then God crushes the rebellion instantly. There is no long war. No suspense. No final battle where evil might have one last chance. Fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours them. Done. Then the devil is thrown into the lake of fire, where the beast and the false prophet already are, and he is tormented day and night for ever and ever. So why release Satan? Because God is publicly demonstrating that rebellion is rooted in the sinner, not the system. Even in a world ruled by perfect righteousness, the unconverted heart still hates God. Nobody at the end of the millennium will be able to blame bad conditions. Nobody will be able to blame corrupt government. Nobody will be able to say God was unfair. They lived under the best conditions the earth has ever known, under the direct reign of the Son of God, and when Satan was loosed, they followed him anyway. That is how deep sin goes. The release of Satan is not a flaw in God’s plan. It is the final exposure of man’s heart, the final exposure of Satan’s nature, and the final vindication of God’s justice. In plain words, Revelation 20 is showing us this: Even a perfect world cannot save a sinful man. Only the new birth can. #MoreJoyMinistries
