Why Will God Release Satan After the Millennial Reign of Christ? (Revelation 20:7–10) Scripture tells us that after Jesus rules for 1,000 years, Satan will be released for a short time. Many believers naturally ask, “Why would God allow that?” While some mysteries belong only to God (Deut. 29:29; Rom. 11:33–36), the Bible gives us several powerful clues. 1. To Reveal the True Condition of the Human Heart During the millennium, the world will experience peace, justice, and perfect leadership under Christ. Those who survive the tribulation will enter the kingdom in mortal bodies and repopulate the earth. Their children, though living under Christ’s rule, will still be born with a fallen nature and will need to personally choose Him. When Satan is released, he will deceive multitudes—“like the sand of the sea.” Even after 1,000 years of perfect conditions, many will still rebel. This shows that humanity’s problem isn’t our environment—it’s our heart (Jer. 17:9). 2. To Demonstrate God’s Holiness and Final Justice Throughout the millennium, Christ’s grace and goodness will be evident everywhere. But at the end, God will allow one final test—then show zero tolerance for rebellion. Fire will fall, the revolt will end instantly, and Satan will be cast into the lake of fire forever. With sin finally and fully removed, the eternal state can begin (Rev. 20:11–15). 3. To Expose Satan for Who He Truly Is Satan has always been humanity’s enemy—deceptive, murderous, and filled with hatred (John 8:44; John 10:10). His final rebellion proves once and for all his nature and his doom. Believers can take courage: Satan is a created being, completely powerless before God, and utterly defeated (1 John 4:4). 4. To Provide One Last Separation Between True and False Allegiance Michael Pearl explains this beautifully: Just as God allowed Satan into Eden, allowed Jesus to be tempted, and allows us to face temptation today—He uses these moments to reveal hearts, build character, and separate the genuine from the false. Without resistance, there is no overcoming. Without choice, there is no love. The millennium ends with the same principle: a final test revealing who truly loves the Lord. In the end: God releases Satan not to create chaos, but to expose it. Not to ruin humanity, but to reveal humanity. Not to weaken Christ’s kingdom, but to complete it. And when the final rebellion ends, righteousness will reign forever. - More Joy Ministries
