The Fig Tree Generation: “The Generation That Will Not Pass” The fig tree generation is the generation that will not pass away until all things prophesied in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 are fulfilled. Matthew 24:32–34 “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh. So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” This is the generation that will see: The Rapture. The abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel. The rise and reign of the Antichrist. The Great Tribulation. Jesus Christ returning in the clouds with power and great glory. The Fig Tree = The Nation of Israel Scripture repeatedly uses the fig tree as a symbol of Israel. Hosea 9:10 “I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time…” Jesus used the fig tree prophetically to describe Israel’s spiritual condition and future, revealing a three-fold picture: The Barren Fig Tree: Luke 13:6–9 For three years, Jesus ministered in Israel seeking spiritual fruit—but found none. Israel had religion without repentance, form without power. Because of continued barrenness, judgment was pronounced—yet mercy delayed it for a season. The Cursed Fig Tree: Mark 11:12–17 | Matthew 21:19 Israel displayed leaves without fruit—outward religion with no inward transformation. Jesus cursed the fig tree, and it withered. Historical fulfillment: In 70 AD, Rome destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple. Israel ceased to exist as a sovereign nation and was scattered from the land. 3. The Replanted Fig Tree: Matthew 24:32–34 Jesus then spoke of a fig tree that would live again—branches tender, leaves returning. Ezekiel 36–37 foretold Israel’s national rebirth. Fulfillment: From 70 AD to May 14, 1948, Israel had no homeland. On May 14, 1948, Israel was reborn as a sovereign nation. The fig tree came back to life. Since then, Israel has: Flourished economically and militarily. Become central to world events. Returned to the global stage exactly as Scripture foretold. The Fig Tree Generation Identified: Luke 21:29–32 “This generation” refers to the generation that sees the fig tree shoot forth again. That generation began in 1948. How Long Is a Generation? Scripture defines modern human lifespan: Psalm 90:10 “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years…” 70 years (normal) 80 years (by strength) 1948 + 80 years = 2028 Scripture also speaks of “labor and sorrow”—which aligns with: Daniel’s 70th Week The 7-year Tribulation Before that period begins, the Church is removed. Summary: Biblical lifespan: up to 80 years Israel reborn: May 14, 1948 80 years later: 2028 Tribulation: still future Rapture: before the hour of trial Israel is God’s prophetic timepiece. Final Warnings & Encouragement: Jesus comes as a thief only to those in darkness: 1 Thessalonians 5:4 “But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.” Revelation 3:10 “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial…” For believers, Jesus Christ is NOT coming as a thief. We are told to watch, be ready, and hold fast. The fig tree is alive. The season is clear. The King is near. — More Joy Ministries
