OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES TO THE RAPTURE: The word rapture does not appear in the Old Testament—but the patterns, shadows, and prophetic language absolutely do. Scripture reveals God’s plan progressively, and the Old Testament lays the foundation for what the New Testament later explains clearly. The rapture is not a new idea. It is a revealed mystery, rooted in ancient truth. Enoch — Taken Before Judgment “Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” (Genesis 5:24) Enoch was removed from the earth without seeing death, before the Flood judgment. This mirrors the pattern of God removing the righteous prior to wrath. Elijah — Caught Up Alive “Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.” (2 Kings 2:11) A bodily translation into heaven—one of the clearest Old Testament previews of being caught up alive. Lot — Removed Before Fire Fell “I cannot do anything till thou be come thither.” (Genesis 19:22) Judgment could not begin until Lot was safely removed. God delivers the righteous before destruction. Isaiah — Hidden Until Indignation Passes “Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers… until the indignation be overpast.” (Isaiah 26:20) God calls His people to enter a place of safety while wrath passes over the earth. Psalm 27 — Hidden in Trouble “In the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion.” (Psalm 27:5) Protection, concealment, and elevation during tribulation—consistent with rapture imagery. Daniel — Resurrection and Reward “Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake…” (Daniel 12:2–3) Daniel describes resurrection followed by glory and reward—key components later expanded in the New Testament. Isaiah — The Dead Rise at His Appearing “Thy dead men shall live… awake and sing.” (Isaiah 26:19) Resurrection connected to the Lord’s intervention. A Consistent Biblical Pattern Before judgment falls, God always: • Removes the righteous • Preserves His people • Then pours out wrath Enoch before the Flood. Lot before fire. Israel protected in Goshen. The New Testament rapture teaching does not replace the Old Testament—it fulfills it. The rapture is not speculation. It is consistent, patterned, and biblically grounded. - More Joy Ministries - Tony Campbell #MoreJoyMinistries
