KINDNESS: (THE SUPERNATURAL FRUIT OF GOD’S CHARACTER) Galatians 5:22 tells us that kindness is part of the fruit of the Spirit. The Greek word used is chrēstotēs, meaning gentleness, goodness, moral excellence, and usefulness in character and conduct. This is not simply being polite or agreeable. Biblical kindness is a reflection of God’s nature flowing through a transformed life. This word appears again in Romans 11:22, which says, “Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in His kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.” This verse reveals something many people overlook. God’s kindness does not eliminate His justice. His kindness actually works alongside His righteousness. He is merciful, but He is also holy. We see the clearest picture of divine kindness in Titus 3:4–7. Scripture says, “But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.” Salvation itself is an act of kindness. It was not earned by human goodness. It was given through divine mercy. When Jesus came to earth, God’s kindness took on flesh. The cross was not only an act of sacrifice. It was the greatest demonstration of kindness ever shown to humanity. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, sin was defeated and eternal life was offered freely to those who believe. Because believers have received this kindness, the Holy Spirit now produces that same fruit within us. Kindness becomes more than an action. It becomes a spiritual character trait. It shows itself in how we speak, how we treat others, and how we respond to those who hurt us. Kindness moves beyond convenience and enters the realm of sacrifice. It causes us to give our time, extend grace through our words, help others with our resources, and lift people through prayer. Jesus expanded this idea even further in Matthew 5:43–44 when He said, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” True kindness is not reserved for those who treat us well. It extends even toward those who oppose us. That level of kindness cannot be produced through human effort alone. It is only possible through the work of Christ within us. Some people struggle with the idea that God is kind because Scripture records moments where He judged nations and punished wickedness. Yet His judgments do not contradict His kindness. They actually reveal it. Kindness cannot ignore evil because evil destroys people. True kindness confronts sin because it seeks restoration and justice. Romans 2:4 explains that it is the kindness of God that leads people to repentance. His patience and mercy are meant to draw hearts back to Him. Humanity has often failed in kindness. We have spoken harshly, acted selfishly, and wounded others. God, however, has never failed in kindness. Every word He speaks, every action He takes, flows from His perfect nature. The miracle of the gospel is that flawed people can be transformed to reflect His character. When believers live out Spirit-produced kindness, it becomes a testimony to the world. It softens hardened hearts. It opens doors for the gospel. It reveals Christ in everyday interactions. The same kindness that led us to repentance can lead others toward freedom and salvation. - More Joy Ministries #morejoyministries
