GENESIS 1:5 (GOD NAMES TIME AND CREATES ORDER) “And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” (Genesis 1:5, KJV) This verse completes the first act of creation and introduces one of the deepest realities in the universe: time. After creating light and separating it from darkness, God now names them. He calls the light “Day” and the darkness “Night.” In Scripture, naming is not casual. Naming is an act of authority and definition. God is not discovering what these things are called. He is declaring what they are. Reality does not name itself. God names reality. Then something even more profound happens. For the first time in the Bible, time is measured. “The evening and the morning were the first day.” This is not poetic symbolism. This is a real, sequential marker. God establishes a rhythm, a cycle, and an order to existence itself. Time is not eternal. God is. Time begins in Genesis 1:5. Before clocks, calendars, seasons, or human schedules, God builds time into creation. Every sunrise and sunset ever since has been echoing this first day. Notice the order: evening comes first, then morning. In biblical thought, a day begins in darkness and moves toward light. That is not accidental. It is a theological pattern. God brings light out of darkness. He brings order out of chaos. He brings life out of death. This becomes the rhythm of redemption itself. Darkness first. Then light. From the very beginning, Scripture is teaching that history is not random. Time is not meaningless. Your life is not drifting. God is moving everything forward according to His design and timetable. Genesis 1:5 quietly demolishes two modern illusions. First, that time is ultimate. It isn’t. God created it. Second, that history has no direction. It does. God gave it one. The same God who named Day and Night also numbers your days. And He is not late. He is not early. He is always exactly on time. - More Joy Ministries - Tony Campbell #morejoyministries
